Taxon list for a grid ref tool

by AndyAmphlett » Wed May 16, 2018 1:02 pm

Hi Tom,

the taxon list for a grid ref tool - https://database.bsbi.org/reports/sitetaxa.php - appears to have been updated recently. It now shows agg / s.l entries which is good. But where a s.s. and a s.l. taxon both occur in a square, the list only shows the more recent occurrence, or so it appears. For example in NH91, the tool shows Trichophorum cespitosum s.l. as having been recorded most recently in 2017. It does not also list T. cespitosum s.s. which was last seen in 2016. Ideally it should show both entries. Is that a possibility?

Thanks,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for spotting this. It wasn't intentional that only a single qualifier-variant of a name was visible (and it would have been inconsistent which of s.s. or s.l. appeared for a particular species). The list now includes both.

I'm not sure when the site taxa report was last updated, but it's possible some revisions appeared with yesterday's software update. That had been a bottle-neck for quite a while - with some updates and tweaks having been made only to the unreleased development version - so that I've somewhat lost track of what changes happened where and when.

Thanks Tom.

On a related matter, there remains some inconsistency as to whether the tool returns agg. taxa. For example this search - https://database.bsbi.org/reports/sitet ... xyear=2018. There are records from this monad for Larix, Narcissus, Rosa and Taraxacum, all as genus only, but these are not listed. However, Rubus fruticosus agg and Dryopteris affinis agg. are listed. Ideally the most recent genus only record would be displayed (as well as most recent year of any species within the genus). The other genus only records that commonly occur are Euphrasia and Hieracium.

This is not urgent, but would be good to fix at some point.

Thanks,

Andy.
