Tripleurospermum maritimum subspecies

by VCR111 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 8:37 pm

I notice that both ssp nigriceps and ssp phaeocephalum are listed on the database, both with a handful of records in British Isles, including one of each for VC111. I understand that ssp nigriceps is the current name for the BI taxon formerly named ssp phaeocephalum, and that ssp phaeocephalum now correctly applies to a different, Arctic, taxon. Hence older records (except one) in DDb go by the older name and more recent records by the new one. Should the taxonomy not be up-dated in DDb? The one exception is a record from Harris in 2003 that goes by both names!

John,

your interpretation matches Sell's Flora (as well as Stace).

Thanks.

I've updated the entry for subsp. phaeocephalum to mark it as a synonym of subsp. nigriceps (and changed it's authority to auct. non)
