Hi Tom,

There are 166 records of Echeveria derenbergii = Painted-lady (the plant) on the DDb. 164 of these records (from 125 hectads) are from Indicia - https://database.bsbi.org/search.php#re ... 63c9df51e1. Looking at a sample of these records they appear to all have been entered as 'Painted-lady', meaning Vanessa cardui = Painted Lady (the butterfly)! Indeed there are several nice photos of the butterfly attached to some of the records eg. https://database.bsbi.org/object.php?ob ... nchstamp=0.

Clement & Foster (Alien Plants published 1994) list the plant as a rare casual escape ), with 1 - 4 post 1930 sites. I have not investigated the two non-Indicia records, but I am pretty sure all the other records are errors. iRecord has entries for both the plant and butterfly in its taxon dictionary, so I am not sure how the error has crept in. Can the records be removed?

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for spotting this.

I've deleted the ex-Indicia Echeveria derenbergii records from the DDb and filed an iRecord bug to report the issue:
