Hello,

The date for the record for Poa compressa by W. Borlase is incorrect as the compiler has confused William Borlase, who wrote the 1758 Natural History of Cornwall, with W. Borlase of Springfield, Truro, who contributed to the 1909 Flora of Cornwall. So 1758 should be deleted and 1909 substituted for it. I should go through the Flora and see if the same thing has happened to other records made W. Borlase.

One of the Perranporth records cites 'The Natural History of Cornwall" as the source, are you sure the earlier date isn't correct?

Yes, I've been through William Borlase's Nat. Hist. of Cornw. and he doesn't mention Poa or compressa or any name that might be a synonym. He's very light on vascular plants and I also searched for whatever it was they called Perranporth . I think the compiler looked at the record and said: 'Borlase, right, that's he of the Nat. Hist. ...' and didn't think or know of W. Borlase of Springfield, Truro. I could look at some more records and see if it's across the board. Must go, my lunch has arrived. Keith

Thanks very much for highlighting the issue. Having just looked at an online copy ( https://archive.org/details/naturalhist ... 6/mode/2up ) I agree with you that the Borlaise records must be miss-attributed.
