Michael,

The easiest, and least error prone way to edit records on the DDb, is to use the bulk edit tools. These are available below the list of records when you have run a query. Click on the down arrow next to 'selected records action' and select edit. A number of options are available - see screen shot below.

There is also an option to add a comment.

These options do not cover all possible edits that a VCR might want to use, and records can be edited individually.

General guidance is to be very circumspect when editing records. Only edit a record when it makes a change that reflects the original recorder's intention. Obious things might be changing a taxon to the agg, where the VCR is confident it was the agg that was intended. Or correcting minor typos to site names. If a record has contradictory details that can not be resolved, eg incompatible site name and grid ref, and you don't know which is correct, it is better to reject the record (and saying why).
