England Red List

by vc66 » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:31 pm

Hi, searching on Conservation Status/England Red List for VC66 returns lots of records for species that are not red list ones (Equisetum arvense, Aegopodium podagraria etc).

Is there something wrong, or am I searching incorrectly?

Hi John,

searching on Conservation Status/England Red List is returning taxa which are listed as 'Least Concern' in the List. I am not sure if this should be happening (Tom?); it doesn't with the GB Red List for example.

This query - https://database.bsbi.org/search.php#re ... f753372afe - finds all species for your vc that are on the England Red List, excluding LC species. You can search for species in specific Red List categories by entering the code letters in the 'value' box in the query.

Thanks Andy, that does what I was looking for. The Excel download, though, doesn't reproduce the "qualifiers" where these make a difference, for example Asplenium trichomanes and Betula pubescens appear simply as such, unqualified, on the download, though their counts are correctly for the qualifying subspecies.

Further to that, it may be happening where there are more than one qualifier sub taxon, lumping them together under the non-red list species name.

John,

see this version of the same query - https://database.bsbi.org/search.php#re ... ae0354730b. Note the change in the 'group by' part of the query. So this query, for example returns both subspecies of Betula pubescens as both are on the Waiting List, but NB that the species (B. pubescens) is LC.

If you hover over the yellow / orange tab at the end of the checklist row in the query, you will see a pop up that says 'show checklist details'. Click on the tab and it takes you to this page - https://database.bsbi.org/object.php?en ... stInstance. Click on 'Items' and you will see all the taxa in the red list with their red list category.

You can just search for taxa in a single category, or two or more if that is more relevant. Fort example, if you just wanted Near Threatened taxa in your vc, run this query - https://database.bsbi.org/search.php#re ... 1b438afc0d.

To view individual records, click on a number in the 'freq' column.

Andy.
